Chapter Twelve

“Get up; get up now, right now!” I jump up from my sleep with Zoe scared shitless next to me as we hear shouting and loud commotion in the room with us.

Siles is pacing as he yells at the top of his lungs while pulling in two large blue suitcases. Sitting in the bed in my nightgown with Zoe next to me, I can feel her hand touching my hand from under the blanket as we both stare at these two large suitcases. I have to admit, the suitcases are large enough for our bodies and that scares me a lot more than the yelling.

Siles moves toward our closet. “Get your asses up now,” he shouts, opening the closet door. Zoe and I jump up out of the bed instantly.

My first thought is, ‘I hope he didn’t find that piece of paper with that key that my sister Suki left.’

Second thought is, ‘What if Rim ran his mouth to Siles making it seem like something was going on in the kitchen between Coke and me?’

Zoe tries to reach out and grab my hand; but when Siles shouts again, she jumps, nearly falling on her ass.

She catches herself as I stare forward, hoping Siles isn’t going to do something crazy. He has to remember I have his child in my belly.

“I need you two to pack as much of your things as you can fit in these suitcases now, no time to waste. Get everything you will need for a while,” he orders and walks to the door.

“Where are we going?” I inquire, hoping I’m not stepping out of line by asking.

With his back to Zoe and me, he says, “We’re going on a trip. We won’t be back for a while.” And then he closes the door behind him. Zoe and I turn and stare at one another with a worried expression on our faces. I just hope he is telling the truth and not just saying that.

After Zoe and I stuffed our suitcases to the top, Henny came to escort us down the stairs, dragging our suitcases down with us. We stand at the bottom looking confused and wondering what’s going on and where we are going.

“Go sit in the living room until it’s time for us to go. I have some business to discuss,” he instructs pointing in the direction he wants Zoe and me to go. With no hesitation, we wander into the living room and flop down next to one another.

I sit with my fingers interlocking into one another and my legs bouncing up and down. My belly is doing summersaults as I become hungry, or maybe it’s the baby that’s hungry. I am not sure.

I glance over at Zoe; she looks back at me with teary eyes.

I reach over, grabbing one of her hands as we interlock our fingers and stare ahead out into the hallway.

Siles and Henny stand talking to one another, but we can’t hear what they are saying. Suddenly, Rim comes into view with a large suitcase in his hand.
